Alemanya de l'Est, 1989. El mur que divideix el país en dues meitats és a punt d'esfondrar-se. Fritzi, de dotze anys, té cura de Sputnik, el gosset de la seva millor amiga Sophie, mentre ella està de vacances amb la família a Hongria. Però arriba la tardor i comença l'escola i la Sophie no ha tornat. Fritzi i Sputnik inicien una aventura per trobar-la.
